President, Founder, and Expert Rhythm Facilitator
San Francisco Bay Area percussionist and art therapist Jeni Swerdlow is a dynamic and engaging facilitator, trainer, presenter, and performer. Founding DRUMMM in 2000, her interactive, rhythmic events have captivated many thousands of participants at several hundred events in the U.S. and abroad. In 2009 alone, DRUMMM brought the experience of drumming to over 9000 participants across America!
A Registered Art Therapist (ATR), Swerdlow has over 15 years of professional facilitation experience. In addition to earning an M.A. in Art Therapy from the University of Illinois Chicago and a B.A. in Visual Arts and Psychology from University of California San Diego, Swerdlow has completed extensive trainings in drum circle facilitation with HealthRHYTHMS and Village Music Circles. Since 1999, Swerdlow has immersed herself in the study of traditional/cultural drumming and dance, including training in Senegal, West Africa.
Swerdlow is best known for her innovative strategies and playful attitude that inspire drumming with freedom and confidence among diverse populations. She is currently working on her first book, documenting the rhythmic activities, games, and best practices Swerdlow has developed over the many years of her work with groups.
Swerdlow has received numerous grants for her DRUMMM programs throughout the U.S. She is a professional member of the Drum Circle Facilitators Guild, as well as the Global Network of Expressive Arts Facilitators. She has been endorsed by drum manufacturer REMO Inc. since 2006. In 2008, Swerdlow co-founded the Northern California Drum Circle Collective, an association for drum circle facilitators practicing in the Bay Area.
As a percussionist, Swerdlow has performed with such renowned groups as Mickey Hart’s Global Drum Project, Redmoon Theater, and Holy Goat Ensemble. Swerdlow currently enjoys playing with the deliciously danceable samba band, The Loyd Family Players.
